Mandy Rice-Davies, born in South Africa but raised in England, gained prominence as an actress and courtesan in Zola's Paris during the late 19th century. She began her career as an ingenue actress for a soft-core filmmaker before becoming one of the most popular courtesans in Paris. Using her charm and erotic innocence, she was able to secure a house bought by a wealthy banker. Despite her relationships with powerful men, including a count and his son, Nana remained independent and manipulative, ultimately bankrupting the count and seducing his son on his wedding day.
