Yuliya Snigir is a prominent Russian actress and model who initially excelled as a competitive chess player, earning the Candidate Master title at 15. She moved to Moscow to pursue higher education, graduating with honors in English from the State Pedagogical University and briefly working as an English teacher. Her career path shifted when she was discovered as a model and subsequently invited to an audition that inspired her to enroll in theatre school.
Snigir's breakthrough in acting came with a leading role in the Russian sci-fi blockbuster The Inhabited Island (2008). She achieved international recognition with her role as the Russian antagonist Irina in the Hollywood action film A Good Day to Die Hard (2013) alongside Bruce Willis. Her notable work also includes the title role in the historical series Catherine the Great (2015) and a recurring role in the international series The New Pope (2020). More recently, she played the title role of Margarita in the critically acclaimed film The Master and Margarita, released in 2024, for which she won the Nika Award for Best Actress. She has also appeared in the film About Love (2015). Snigir is known for her versatility, balancing roles in indie films, TV dramas, large studio projects, and theatre.
