Born and raised in Brooklyn, New York, she began her career performing in nightclubs and Broadway theaters in the early 1960s before signing to Columbia Records in 1963. Streisand is one of the best-selling recording artists of all time, with sales exceeding 150 million records worldwide, and has won numerous awards including two Academy Awards, ten Grammy Awards, five Emmy Awards, and nine Golden Globes.
