Two years later, she starred alongside Bruce Willis in the erotic thriller 'Color of Night' (1994). In French Colonial Vietnam in 1929, a young French girl named Christine from a financially struggling family travels alone to her boarding school on public transportation. She catches the eye of a wealthy Chinese businessman, Huynh Thien Qui, who offers her a ride into town in his chauffeured car. The two form a passionate affair that transcends social conventions and class restrictions.
Based on Marguerite Duras' semi-autobiographical novel of the same name, 'L'amant' is a period drama set against the backdrop of French Colonial Vietnam in the late 1920s. The film explores themes of forbidden love and social inequality through the tumultuous relationship between Christine, a young girl from a poor family, and Huynh Thien Qui, a wealthy Chinese businessman. Directed by Jean-Jacques Annaud, 'L'amant' is a powerful exploration of a torrid affair that challenges societal norms.
