Molly, Elisabeth, and Maria, three friends who are dissatisfied with their marriages, decide to fake their husbands' deaths in order to escape their unhappy relationships and gain financial independence. Molly, a devoted housewife, wants freedom from her abusive and unfaithful husband Erich; Elisabeth, a successful lawyer, longs for romance with the younger musician Vince instead of her much older husband Charles; Maria, who married Konrad for his money, seeks respect and recognition but fears losing her fortune in a divorce.
