In Renaissance Italy of 1599, Beatrice Cenci, a young teenager, lives in her father's castle with her stepmother and servant Olimpio. Her father, Francesco Cenci, is a cruel and depraved nobleman who keeps Beatrice locked up and sexually abuses her at his whim. Driven to desperation by this treatment, Beatrice decides she must free herself from her father's tyranny. She plots with her stepmother and the besotted servant Olimpio to have Catalano, a local bandit, help them murder Francesco.
Beatrice Cenci is a historical drama-horror film directed by Lucio Fulci in 1969. It is based on the true story of Beatrice Cenci, who was executed for allegedly conspiring with her lover to poison her abusive father, Francesco Cenci, in Rome during the Renaissance period. The film explores themes of tyranny, abuse of power, and the desperation it can drive people to.
