Story

The film 'Les chemins de Katmandou' (1969), directed by André Cayatte, is an adaptation of a novel of the same name by Pierre Schoendoerffer. The plot follows the journey of three French friends who travel to Nepal after leaving their lives behind in France following the May 1968 protests. One of them, Paul, becomes involved with a young woman named Mala, who is a member of a cult led by an enigmatic figure known as 'The Master'. As Paul delves deeper into the cult's teachings and his relationship with Mala grows more intense, his friends become concerned about his well-being and the direction their lives are taking.

Summary

Set amidst the political turmoil of late 1960s France and the cultural revolution sweeping through Europe, 'Les chemins de Katmandou' explores themes of personal freedom, spiritual quests, and the search for identity among young people disillusioned with mainstream society. The film is notable for its portrayal of the counterculture movement and the impact it had on a generation seeking alternatives to traditional ways of life.
