Full Biography

Dana Elaine Owens, known professionally as Queen Latifah, was born on March 18, 1970, in Newark, New Jersey. She began her career as a rapper and singer, signing with Tommy Boy Records in 1989. Her debut album 'All Hail the Queen' featured the hit single 'Ladies First'. She gained further recognition starring as Khadijah James on the Fox sitcom 'Living Single' from 1993 to 1998. Latifah's work includes several notable films and television shows, such as her role in 'Chicago', for which she received an Academy Award nomination, and her portrayal of blues singer Bessie Smith in the HBO film 'Bessie' (2015), which earned her a Primetime Emmy Award.
