Story

Set in post-war Northern Italy under fascist rule, 'La disubbidienza' tells the story of Luca Manzi, a fourteen-year-old boy who becomes a partisan but feels disillusioned after the war due to the lack of change in society. He attempts suicide but is saved by Edith, his father's lover, who introduces him to sex. When Edith dies unexpectedly from a heart attack, Luca falls ill again and is nursed back to health by Angela, who sells herself to afford his medication. Angela becomes Luca's lover during his parents' absence in Rome. Upon their return, Luca decides to leave them, disapproving of their lifestyle.
