Daughter of a professor and head of gastric surgery at the Institut Mutualiste Montsouris, Brice Gayet, and an antique dealer mother, Julie received a social liberal intellectual upbringing. After studying art history, psychology, circus skills, and operatic singing, she began her acting career in 1992 with an episode of the French TV series 'Premiers baisers'. Her first notable film role was in the 1996 comedy 'Delphine 1, Yvan 0'. She has performed musically in videos for Benjamin Biolay and sung a duet with Marc Lavoine.
