Elizabeth McGovern was born on July 18, 1961, and began her acting career while studying at Juilliard. Her first film role was in 'Ordinary People' (1980). In 1981, she earned an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actress for playing Evelyn Nesbit in 'Ragtime'. After completing her studies at American Conservatory Theatre and The Juilliard School, McGovern performed in plays Off-Broadway and later on Broadway. She starred in notable films like 'Once Upon a Time in America' (1984), 'Johnny Handsome' (1989), and 'The Handmaid's Tale' (1989).

Story
Johnny Handsome, a deformed gangster, plans and executes a successful robbery with his associates. However, he is betrayed by Sunny Boid and Rafe Garrett, leading to Mikey Chalmette's death and Johnny's imprisonment. While incarcerated, Johnny participates in a rehabilitation program led by Dr. Steven Fischer, who performs plastic surgery on him, giving him a new face. Paroled with his new identity, Johnny starts working at a shipyard and begins a romance with Donna McCarty. Lt. A.Z. Drones suspects Johnny's sincerity. Consumed by revenge, Johnny plans to confront the man responsible for sending him to prison.
