The film 'Marie Antoinette' begins with the teenage Marie Antoinette, daughter of Empress Maria Theresa of Austria, being betrothed and married to the future King Louis XVI of France at the age of fifteen. She leaves her home in Austria for the opulent court at Versailles, where she struggles to adapt to her new life among the French nobility. Despite her initial awkwardness, Marie Antoinette grows into her role as queen, enjoying the luxuries and freedoms that come with her position. However, her extravagant lifestyle and perceived indifference towards the suffering of the common people ultimately contribute to her unpopularity and the outbreak of the French Revolution. As the revolution progresses, Louis XVI is imprisoned and eventually executed, leading to Marie Antoinette's own arrest and subsequent execution in 1793.
