Story

Iris Murdoch (Kate Winslet), an intellectually vibrant young academic teaching philosophy at Oxford, meets her fellow professor John Bayley (Hugh Bonneville). Their relationship evolves over time, with Iris' spirited personality contrasting with John's awkwardness. The story shifts between their early years and Iris' later life, after she has been diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease. As the illness progresses, John cares for Iris despite his frustration at her deteriorating condition.

Summary

Iris is a biographical drama based on the true story of renowned British writer and philosopher Iris Murdoch. The film chronicles her lifelong romance with husband John Bayley, from their student days to her battle with Alzheimer's disease. Directed by Richard Eyre, the movie explores themes of love, aging, and the effects of dementia through a non-linear narrative, with older John Bayley (Jim Broadbent) reflecting on their past. Iris' charismatic personality and intellectual prowess contrast starkly with her later life, reduced to dependence due to Alzheimer's.
