Two upper-class teenage girls from Pacific Palisades, Allison and Emily, become fascinated with the 'gangsta' lifestyle they perceive in hip-hop culture and decide to explore it firsthand in East L.A. They initially have a thrilling time, partying with local gangs and engaging in underage drinking and drugs. However, their reckless behavior escalates when they provoke the wrath of a violent Latino gang after filming a sexual encounter involving Emily and one of its members. The girls quickly realize they've gone too far when they are accosted by the gang and Emily is gang-raped. Allison tries to get them out of the situation but is unsuccessful, leading to a dangerous confrontation with Hector, a ruthless drug dealer.

Directed by documentary filmmaker Barbara Kopple in her narrative feature debut, 'Havoc' (2005) is a drama that explores the darker side of rebellion. The film follows two privileged teenagers who leave their insulated lives to immerse themselves in the gritty reality of East L.A.'s gang culture. While the movie's portrayal of gangs and violence has been criticized for sensationalism, it provides a compelling narrative about the consequences of reckless behavior and the dangers of naive experimentation with dangerous lifestyles.
