Adam Bell, a history professor at a Toronto college, leads an unremarkable life with his girlfriend Mary until he discovers an actor named Anthony Claire who shares his exact likeness while watching a movie rental. Intrigued and unsettled by this revelation, Adam becomes obsessed with finding out more about Claire. He learns that Claire is married to Helen and is expecting their first child. Despite their physical similarities, Claire appears more 'put together' than Adam. As Adam's curiosity grows into an obsession, he manages to arrange a meeting with Claire.
