In an alternate reality Cuba, Fidel Castro turns to genetic engineering to create 'New Men,' highly intelligent beings meant to save his socialist utopia. However, these creatures prove to be cruel and uncontrollable, leading Castro to reject them. In retaliation, the New Men orchestrate terrorist attacks across the island, spreading fear and chaos. Elena, a member of their group, discovers a clue about her genetic identity and embarks on a journey to find her humanity.
