In Albania during the 1950s, Luana, the daughter of a respected village man, befriends Agim after his family is banished by communists. As they grow older, their friendship blossoms into love. However, Luana's father had already promised her to another man when she was young. When he discovers Luana and Agim's relationship, he swiftly arranges for Luana's marriage to the chosen suitor. Luana is faced with a difficult choice: elope with Agim to Germany, risking capture and probable death at the hands of communists, or remain loyal to her family.
