Bartleby Gaines (Justin Long), a high school senior struggling with self-doubt after being rejected from multiple colleges, decides to create his own institution of higher learning as a last resort. He transforms an abandoned psychiatric hospital into the South Harmon Institute of Technology (SHIT) and convinces his best friends, Hands (Jonah Hill) and Rory (Adam Scott), to help him run it. Bartleby's girlfriend, Shannon (Blake Lively), also joins them, initially under false pretenses but eventually as a genuine student. As the school gains popularity due to its unique 'no rejection policy,' Bartleby must navigate maintaining the facade while trying to secure legitimate professors and degrees for his students. The film culminates in a series of events where Bartleby's deception is threatened to be exposed, leading to a chaotic climax involving an electro-shock therapy machine and a frat party.
